Bruce Balton was a camera motion and lighting technician who worked on numerous awards shows and other large-scale live events during a career than spanned more than 30 years.
A native of Queens, New York, Balton grew up in Brooklyn and New Hyde Park, New York. He briefly attended the New York Institute of Technology before embarking on his film and television career in the late 1970s.
He went on to work on thousands of productions — including live concerts, feature films and TV programs. His credits included stints as a dolly grip, crane arm grip and jib operator.
Highlights of his career included winning an Emmy Award in 1993 for his work as a crane operator on the HBO boxing program In This Corner. He also received Emmy nominations for his work on the 45th Annual Grammy Awards and the 62nd Annual Tony Awards.
His professional affiliations included membership in the International Cinematographers Guild International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 600 and the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians.
Balton died October 4, 2013, in Milford, Pennsylvania. He was 56.
