David Johansen was a singer-songwriter, composer and actor. He was best known as the lead singer of the band, New York Dolls. He performed and appeared on Late Night with David Letterman, The Pat Sajak Show, Great Performances, The Greatest and 8 episodes of Saturday Night Live. He guest starred on shows including Miami Vice, The Equalizer, The Magical World of Disney and CBS Schoolbreak Special and played characters on Cupid, Oz, and The Adventures of Pete & Pete. He also wrote music for episodes of Chuck, The Simpsons, I Love Dick, Gotham and Pretend It's a City.

David can be seen in films including "Candy Mountain," "Married to the Mob," "Scrooged," "Let it Ride" and "Crooked Lines." His music appeared in movies including "Kick-Ass" and "Adventureland" and wrote songs for "Postcards from America," "Velvet Goldmine" and "The Filth and the Fury."
