Sir Michael Gambon – Mr. Woodhouse in PBS’s Emma - was an accomplished theatre actor who has performed under Sir Laurence Olivier, starred in John Dexter’s Galileo, and appears regularly at the Royal National Theatre and RSC in roles including King Lear, Othello, and Volpone.
He is recognized for the character of Professor Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series, having taken over after the death of the role's originator, Richard Harris.
Gambon also played Philip Marlow on BBC’s The Singing Detective and Jules Maigret in the popular 90’s ITV Maigret.
In 2015, Gambon appeared in the television adaptation of The Casual Vacancy, written by Harry Potter writer J. K. Rowling.
