Robert Ellis Miller was a director best known for his work on the 1983 film Reuben, Reuben. The film followed the story of a drunken Scottish poet who gets his life back together after meeting a beautiful young woman.

Miller also helmed the films The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, starring Alan Arkin, and Any Wednesday, starring Jane Fonda.

Miller also worked extensively in television, directing episodes of the series M Squad, The Millionaire, Perry Mason, Ben Casey, The Donna Reed Show, The Twilight Zone, Route 66, Naked City, The Virginian, The Fugitive, Burke’s Law, and The Rogues.

In 1961, he received an Emmy nomination for the anthology drama series Alcoa Premiere, which was hosted by Fred Astaire.

Miller was married to the late Pola Miller, a documentarian.

Robert Miller died January 27, 2017, in Woodland Hills, California. He was 84.
