Thad Mumford was an American television producer and writer.

A native of Washington, D.C., Mumford worked as a page for the local NBC affiliate WRC-TV while in high school and soon began writing jokes for Johnny Carson and Joan Rivers. After high school, he attended Fordham University in New York City, where he landed a job as a writer on the PBS children’s television program The Electric Company.

Mumford wrote and produced for a number of television series, including The Cosby Show, A Different World, M*A*S*H, Maude, Good Times, Home Improvement, Roots: The Next Generations, and Judging Amy, among others.

In 1973, Mumford won a Primetime Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Achievement in Children's Programming - Entertainment/Fictional for his writing on The Electric Company. He received three additional Primetime Emmy Award nominations for his work on M*A*S*H.

Mumford died September 6, 2018, in Silver Springs, Maryland. He was 67.
