Tony Verna was a veteran sportscaster and producer, widely regarded as the inventor of the "instant replay."
From 1955 through 1996, he directed or produced television events ranging from baseball broadcasts to specials on Pope John Paul II to a Johnny Cash Christmas Special.
Verna was also the author of five books and holder of two patents for instant replay technology.
