On April 8, the Television Academy Foundation was invited to the Broadcast Education Association Conference to present The Power of TV: Unscripted Storytelling.
Attended by media educators from around the country, the event featured a conversation with reality TV pioneers Jonathan Murray (Bunim-Murray Productions), credited as the founder of the modern reality TV genre and and David Collins (Scout Productions), creator of the original Queer Eye and its reboot. Dean of the Elon University's School of Communications Dr. Rochelle Ford moderated the conversation.
The panel discussed how unscripted television can shatter stereotypes, promote social understanding of marginalized groups, and champion pro-social causes. Murray and Collins shared their expertise and experiences, providing insights for educators to bring back to their classrooms.
