Don Ohlmeyer was a producer, director and network executive who produced ABC’s Monday Night Football during its 1970s heyday, and two decades later, as the president of NBC West Coast, guided the peacock network to its number-one spot with a lineup that included ER, Friends, Frasier and Seinfeld.

Ohlmeyer was the recipient of three Emmy Awards, for NFL Monday Night Football and ABC’s Wide World of Sports in 1976, and Special Bulletin, a 1983 telefilm.

Over the course of his career he was a producer on telecasts for the Olympics, the Super Bowl, the Emmy Awards and MTV’s Video Music Awards, as well as various Major League Baseball games and Battle of the Network Stars specials.

He spent his early years in television as an associate director for ABC Sports, before moving to NBC Sports. Two years later, he left NBC to create Ohlmeyer Communications, where he continued to produce sports programs, television movies and musical events, including Season’s Greetings: An Evening With John Williams and the Boston Pops Orchestra.

Ohlmeyer died September 10, 2017, in Indian Wells, California. He was 72.
