Girish Bhargava was an Indian-born film editor.

He was best known for editing dance films such as Dirty Dancing, and numerous episodes of the PBS series Dance in America.

Bhargava edited films that captured the work of George Balanchine, Peter Martins, Bob Fosse, Merce Cunningham, Martha Graham and many other prominent choreographers.

After graduating from the Birla Institute of Technology with a degree in engineering, he took a job at All India Radio, and then, at age 24, was offered an internship at the German television broadcaster ZDF. Two years later he came to the United States.

In 1971 he went to the New York public television station WNET to work as an editor on The Great American Dream Machine, a satirical variety show that featured performers like Chevy Chase and Albert Brooks.

Bhargava won two Primetime Emmy Awards. His first win came in 1976, for Outstanding Achievement in Graphic Design and Title Sequences for his work on an episode of The Adams Chronicles. His second win came in 1991, for Outstanding Editing for a Miniseries or a Special (Multi-Camera Production) on the television special The Muppets Celebrate Jim Henson.

His final credit was for a 2014 film, Isabelle Dances Into the Spotlight.

Bhargava died November 11, 2017, in Santa Monica, California. He was 76.
