Harry Anderson was an American actor, comedian, and magician.
He is best known for the lead role of Judge Harry Stone on the 1984–1992 television series Night Court, and later starred in the sitcom Dave's World from 1993 to 1997.
In addition to eight appearances on Saturday Night Live between 1981 and 1985, Anderson had a recurring guest role as con man Harry "The Hat" Gittes on Cheers.
He toured extensively as a magician, and did several magic/comedy shows for broadcast, including Harry Anderson's Sideshow in 1987, and Harry Anderson: The Tricks of His Trade in 1996. He made several appearances on The Tonight Show, doing tricks for fellow magic enthusiast Johnny Carson.
Anderson played Richie Tozier in the 1990 miniseries It, based on the Stephen King novel of the same name.
Anderson reunited with Night Court co-star John Larroquette in a guest-starring role on The John Larroquette Show in 1996. In 2008, Anderson played himself on an episode of 30 Rock as part of a mini-Night Court reunion alongside former co-stars Markie Post and Charles Robinson.
In addition to his acting work, Anderson was also given the opportunity to write and direct several episodes of Night Court and Dave’s World.
Anderson died April 16, 2018, in Asheville, North Carolina. He was 65.
