Herbert Strabel was a German set designer best known for his Oscar-winning work on the 1972 musical Cabaret. The Bob Fosse-directed film starred Liza Minelli as Sally Bowles, a performer at the Kit Kat Klub in Berlin, set shortly before the Nazis' rise to power.
Strabel also designed the sets for the films Brass Target, Night Crossing, Despair and Lili Marleen.
Additionally, Strabel contributed to the 1982 television movie Inside the Third Reich, earning him an Emmy nomination. He also worked on the telefilm From the Life of the Marionettes, written and directed by Ingmar Bergman.
Strabel died October 21, 2017, in Holzkirchen, Germany. He was 90.
