Lynn Shelton was an American filmmaker.

A leading force of independent cinema, Shelton began working as a film editor before writing, directing, and producing her own content.

In 2006, she made her first film We Go Way Back and would go on to write and direct seven more feature films including My Effortless Brilliance (2008), Humpday (2009), Your Sister’s Sister (2011), and Sword of Trust (2019).

She also directed multiple episodes of primetime television including Mad Men, New Girl, The Mindy Project, Master of None, Shameless, The Good Place, Santa Clarita Diet, Fresh Off the Boat, Little Fires Everywhere, and Marc Maron’s comedy specials End Times Fun and Too Real.

In 2020, Shelton was nominated for two Emmy Awards for her contributions to the Hulu series Little Fires Everywhere.

Shelton died May 16, 2020, in Los Angeles, California. She was 54.
