Neil Mahoney was an American editor and producer.

Born in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Mahoney attended Emerson University, which eventually led him to the world of Los Angeles comedy. As a senior at Emerson, Mahoney worked his first industry job as an intern on David Cross and Bob Odenkirk's Emmy-nominated sketch program Mr. Show.

Mahoney is most widely known for being a part of the editing team on Key and Peele, for which he shared a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2016 for Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming.

Both his editing and producing career began on the web series Derek and Simon: The Show. From there, he began editing episodes of Drunk History before it was picked up by Comedy Central, and continued to work for the network on episodes of the popular series, as well as for Funny or Die Presents….

Mahoney also helped cut episodes of The Hustle, The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, Portlandia, The Greatest Party Story Ever, Another Period, and Royalties.

Mahoney was particularly proud of his work on Comrade Detective, a 2017 Amazon Prime series (executive produced by Channing Tatum) purporting to be a fictional lost Romanian television show commissioned by the Communist Party to promote a communist worldview during the Cold War.

Mahoney's sole foray into feature film direction came in 2011 with Freak Dance, a comedy based on a stage show presented by the improvisational sketch troupe Upright Citizen's Brigade. Mahoney co-directed the film with UCB's Matt Besser.

Mahoney died January 8, 2021, in Los Angeles, California. He was 43.
