Roger Pietschmann was a sound mixer best known for his Emmy-nominated work on the short-lived television series Sleeper Cell. The show followed an American undercover FBI agent who infiltrates a terrorist sleeper cell in Los Angeles.
Pietschmann also contributed to the series American Masters, Family Law, The Division, Reunion, Dirt, Last Comic Standing and Dexter.
His first credit came in 1976, when he worked as a recorder on the classic Martin Scorsese film Taxi Driver, starring Robert De Niro as disturbed New York cabbie Travis Bickle.
Pietschmann also worked on The Front, starring Woody Allen; Human Highway, with Neil Young; Streets of Fire, with Diane Lane; Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, starring Paul Reubens; Project X, with Matthew Broderick and Helen Hunt; The Seventh Sign, starring Demi Moore; Loverboy, with Patrick Dempsey; Batman Returns, starring Michael Keaton; Shadow of a Doubt, with Melanie Griffith; Rock Star, with Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston; and Honey I Blew Up the Kid.
Both Pietschmann’s father and grandfather were also involved in film. His father Richard J. Pietschmann Jr. helped create the sound system for Cinerama and his grandfather Richard J. Pietschmann Sr., did set lighting.
Roger Pietschmann died July 26, 2016, in Los Angeles. He was 71.
