Shirley Mitchell was an actress remembered by fans of classic television for the role of Lucy Ricardo's friend Marion Strong on the iconic comedy I Love Lucy. A prolific performer for seven decades, she began her career in 1944 with a role in the feature film Jamboree and earned her last credit in 2012 as a voice performer in an episode of the Cartoon Network series Mad.
Along the way she appeared in dozens of television shows, both as a series regular and a guest performer. In addition to I Love Lucy, a partial list included I Married Joan, Sixpenny Corner, Lux VIdeo Theatre, Leave It to Beaver, Bachelor Father, Dragnet, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, The Jack Benny Program, Lassie, Mister Ed, Pete and Gladys, The Beverly Hillbillies, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Bachelor Father, Perry Mason, The Red Skelton Hour, Petticoat Junction, My Three Sons, The Mothers-In-Law, Green Acres, The Odd Couple, Emergency!, Chico and the Man, Three's Company, Alice, Dallas and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Her additional feature films included and Mr. Lord Says No, Desk Set, Too Much, Too Soon, My Blood Runs Cold and The War of the Roses.
Mitchell died November 11, 2013, in Los Angeles at age 94.
