NBC’s broadcast of the 66th Emmy Awards delivered 15.6 million total viewers on Monday, the second biggest overall audience for the Emmys in 8 years, according to Nielsen Media Research national ratings.
Hosted by Late Night star Seth Meyers, Monday’s draw is bested only by the 17.8 million strong tune-in to last season’s show, which benefited from a Sunday night airdate in September and a top-rated NFL lead-in. This installment is now the most-watched night on any network since ABC’s Oscar Awards telecast drew 35.2 million eyes on March 2.
Excluding the 2013 Emmy Awards telecast, Monday night drew the most Emmys viewers since the Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006 telecast, which averaged 16.2 million viewers on NBC.
Hosted by Seth Meyers on Monday from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. ET (and live across all time zones), the program averaged a 4.2 rating with adults 18-49, tying the 4.2 ratings in this demo posted in 2009 and 2011.
The 4.2 rating matches the Emmys second highest in 7 years, since the Fox network’s 2007 broadcast averaged a 4.3. CBS pulled in a 4.9 in this demo last season.
In social media, Monday's Emmys delivered 1.1 million tweets, a 19% boost from last season (per Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings). Unique tweeters rose 12% from 2013 to 370,000.
