Ehrlich to TCA: Music to Play a Big Role at the Emmys

Beverly Hills, CA - 65th Primetime Emmy® Awards show executive producer Ken Ehrlich and newly installed president/COO of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Lucy Hood, visited with members of the Television Critics Association today in Beverly Hills at the organization’s Summer 2013 Press Tour. 

With the 2013 Primetime Emmy nominations announced, attentions turn toward show day, September 22. Ehrlich and Hood spoke casually with TCA members about what this year’s live telecast may have in store for fans.

Ehrlich is widely esteemed for delivering compelling Grammy® Awards programs, full of once-in-a-lifetime collaborations and unexpected reunions — and said music will play a big role in this Primetime Emmys show as well.

How? Well, when you think about who’s hosting—and the hit song-and-dance open that returning host Neil Patrick Harris delivered in 2009, during his first time steering the Emmys—the musical possibilities are endless.

Ehrlich told TheWrap that he has also been reflecting on how to celebrate the lives of so many television personalities lost in this year's "In Memoriam" segment, but that it's still too early to discuss.

Ehrlich did say that the Primetime Emmys program will be very “Neil-driven” and to brace ourselves for lots of surprises.

Looking at the array of newcomers to this year’s class of Primetime Emmy nominees—including history-making House of Cards and Arrested Development, which garnered first ever series and performer category Emmy noms for television content delivered first to fans online—the Emmy surprises have already begun.

The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards airs live coast-to-coast from the NOKIA Theatre LA Live in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 22 (8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT) on CBS.
