Primetime Emmy Tally: One
How She Got the Gold: As supervising producer on Netflix's Dave Chappelle: Equanimity, which won Outstanding Variety Special (Pre- Recorded) in 2018.
Now for the Noms: Hughes won on her first nomination.
Walking Tall: "I was just happy going into the ceremony being the first African-American woman to be nominated in this category, and then I heard 'Killing Me Softly' (Dave Chappelle's favorite song). I was shocked, and all I could think was, ' Do not fall walking up the stairs ,' like the guy ahead of me did. Everything else was a blank."
Stop and Glow: "My Emmy sits in a case behind my desk. I blush every time I see it."
Pride and Joy: "I've always just focused on making great projects that I can be proud of — the Emmy was a happy bonus. My win is so exciting because it's my peers saying, 'Well done.' That makes me smile."
Female Factor: "I worked with Sharon Osbourne many years ago, and she was the first woman in this male-dominated field who inspired me to be great and taught me how to have work–home life balance."
The Upside: "I always say, I can't believe I get paid to have this much fun! It's often hard work, but when the project is done, I smile and have an immediate sense of gratitude."
