SNL: By the Numbers

You're gonna need "more cowbell."

Studio 8H, the modest-sized soundstage and production area home to Saturday Night Live, has spent the last five decades being a launch pad for several of pop-culture's most memorable load-bearing columns.

It's the place that first beamed the Coneheads into our living room before dropping us in on Wayne and Garth's basement. It spawned such viral hits as "Lazy Sunday" and "Dick in a Box" while turning cast members like Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph into household names.

In honor of SNL's recent 50th anniversary, we got a fever — and the only prescription is a by-the-numbers breakdown of the long-running, late-night comedy staple.

0: Combined number of times that Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, Meryl Streep, Will Smith, Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt have hosted the show.

3: Pairs of brothers who have been cast members (John and Jim Belushi, Bill Murray and Brian Doyle-Murray, Dan and Peter Aykroyd).

4: Emmy trophies SNL collected in 1976 for its premiere season.

5: Celebrities who have hosted at least 10 times: Alec Baldwin (17), Steve Martin (16), John Goodman (13), Tom Hanks (10) and Buck Henry (10).

15: Films that originated as SNL sketches, from 1980’s Blues Brothers through 2010’s MacGruber.

15: Times that Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has appeared, more than any other musical guest.

22: Seasons that Kenan Thompson has appeared on the show, making him the longest-serving cast member.

38: Seasons that Don Pardo served as the show’s announcer. Upon Pardo’s death in 2014 at age 96, cast alum Darrell Hammond took over the gig.

80: Position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1999 for Adam Sandler’s “The Chanukah Song,” which he first performed on “Weekend Update” in December 1994.

88: Betty White’s age, a show record, when she hosted the 2010 Mother’s Day episode; Drew Barrymore was 7 when she hosted in 1982, making her the youngest host ever.

95: Emmy trophies SNL has collected from a total of 341 nominations.
