Barbra Streisand to Receive SAG Life Achievement Award

The five-time Emmy winner is the 59th recipient of the guild's career recognition honor.

Over the course of a career spanning more than half a century, Barbra Streisand has received numerous professional accolades, including Emmys, Oscars and Grammys. On February 24 she will achieve another prestigious milestone when she will be honored with the SAG Life Achievement Award at the 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony. Streisand will be the 59th recipient of the award, which acknowledges her philanthropy as well as her work as an actress, singer, writer and filmmaker.

In a statement announcing the honor, SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher said, "Barbra Streisand is an icon and unparalleled talent, a force of nature who has seamlessly woven her brilliance through the fabric of our industry. From her earliest days captivating audiences on Broadway to her unforgettable roles in cinematic classics like Funny Girl, The Way We Were, and A Star Is Born, Barbra's ability to inhabit her characters with authenticity is nothing short of extraordinary."

A five-time Emmy Award winner, Streisand received her first Primetime Emmy in 1965 for the CBS special My Name is Barbra. She went on to win two Primetime Emmys for the HBO broadcast Barbra Streisand: The Concert in 1995 and one in 2001 for the Fox concert special Barbra Streisand: Timeless. She also captured a Daytime Emmy in 2001 for hosting and executive producing the AMC documentary Reel Models: The First Women of Film.

In addition to her Emmys, Streisand has 10 Grammys, two Oscars, an honorary Tony Award and three Peabody Awards, to name a few of her accolades.

"Ever since I was a young girl sitting in the Loew's Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, I dreamed of being one of those actresses I saw on the screen," Streisand said in response to the announcement. "The movies were a portal to a world I could only imagine. Even though I was an unlikely candidate, somehow my dream came true. This award is especially meaningful to me because it comes from my fellow actors, whom I so admire."

The 2024 SAG Awards will stream LIVE on Netflix on Saturday, February 24, at 5 p.m. (PT) / 8 p.m. (ET), from the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles.
